Twitter: Why You Need Followers

Twitter:  Why You Need Followers

Everybody seems to be jumping on the Twitter bandwagon.  Celebrities, students, business owners and even your everyday Joe Blow, all seem to be using Twitter.  People use Twitter for networking, keeping in touch with friends and family or to have an inside peek in to the lives of their favorite celebrities or random strangers.  You have to admit that it can be pretty exciting getting a random “tweet” from a celebrity (or someone else you may not know) letting you in on what their doing throughout the day.
One way to have a good experience using Twitter is to garner up a group of followers.  People new to Twitter often wonder why you need followers. Well, having followers will increase the chances of your tweets being seen and responded to with a retweet.  Let’s face it.  The main goal is to have your tweets seen immediately or soon after posting.  The more followers you have the better the chances of your tweets actually been seen, which is extremely important, if Twitter is being used for networking purposes. There are many tweets going out every second and you want as many people to see your tweet as possible.
Another reason why you need followers is to increase your visibility.  People tend to pay attention those already in the spotlight.  You can increase your visibility by following others so that hopefully they will also follow you.  Sending out retweets after getting a tweet from one of your followers helps to start twittering conversations which also aides in increasing your visibility.  When people retweet to your post, you become exposed to their network which instantly increases your visibility.
If Twitter is being used for business purposes, then growing your business is another reason why you need followers.  It’s easy (not to mention free) to send out a tweet about a particular product that you may be selling.  You’re able to advertise your product or business to a mass audience. The chances of them being interested in your goods or services are better than cold advertising because you have already established a good tweeting relationship with them.  The more followers you have will mostly likely lead to increased sales.
Increasing your social exposure is also a reason why you need followers if you’re using Twitter.  When you have a follower, your tweets are not just seen by them, but also by their followers.  Having followers that you interact with on a regular basis through tweets also helps your tweets to be seen through a larger network increasing your exposure which ultimately results in gaining more followers.
There are probably hundreds of other reasons why you need followers when using Twitter.  One thing is for sure, if you want to have success on Twitter, jump on the bandwagon by increasing your visibility and exposure through tweeting relationships.  Don’t expect thousands of followers overnight (unless you’re a celebrity).  Consistency will prove the best way to eventually garner a strong base of followers.
